U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Dec. 12, 2016) 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit Law Enforcement (LE) Marines and Tessa, a military working dog, walk a patrol route around a forward operating base during Exercise Alligator Dagger, Dec. 13. The patrol served two purposes: to sustain the LE detachment Marines’ patrolling tactics and procedures, and acclimatize Tessa to the region’s high temperatures and arid environment. The 11th MEU is currently supporting the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations’ mission to promote and maintain stability and security in the region.

POOCH was designed to provide inmates with vocational training in the hope that the training will open up employment opportunities upon release from confinement. Though not its primary objective, the program meets an increasing demand for service dogs. Each trained dog is given to at no cost to disabled veterans and veteran families with autistic children. In the event of a serious emergency, an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is established to ensure that regional command and control is performed to the highest standard. Exercise Semper Durus 2018 is an annual exercise conducted by Marine Corps Base - Camp Pendleton to improve response procedures and limit impact during a crisis situation. Representatives from various commands come together in an EOC and act as puzzle pieces, each playing their own role in building a clear picture of mission success. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl.
