Marines prepare chili bowls during Headquarters and Support Battalion’s first ever Noncommissioned Officers' Association Chili Cook-off here Jan. 18. Competitors entered their chili and were judged on color, aroma, consistency, taste and aftertaste. Master Sgt. Duane K. Hairston, the equal opportunity advisor for H&S Bn., captured the first place award with his uniquely named “North Carolina Mud” chili. The People’s Choice award went to Cpl. Michelle Brinn, the H&S Bn. fund drive coordinator, and her “8-hour chili.”
