Jason Woodworth, the commanding general for Marine Corps Installations West, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, delivers remarks during the 81st annual Evening Colors Ceremony at the Santa Margarita Ranch House on MCB Camp Pendleton, California, Sept. 20, 2023. The annual ceremony is held to recognize the base’s history, legacy, importance and the commemoration of the official dedication of Camp Pendleton. President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the installation Sept. 25, 1942, in honor of World War I Maj. Gen. Joseph H. Pendleton, who had long advocated the establishment of a West Coast training base.
