A group of sailors are formed during the Navy Hospital Corps 112th Birthday Ceremony at Camp Pendleton’s 22 Area parade deck, June 17. The Navy Hospital Corps, as it is known today, was established within the medical department of the Navy under an act of the U.S. Congress, approved June 17, 1898. That same year, the relationship between the hospital corps and the Marine Corps was established when corpsmen were assigned to the Marine Corps Expeditionary Battalion.
