Jeffrey L. Wilkerson (left), deputy fire chief, Camp Pendleton Fire and Emergency Services, conducts the “Four-Fives” bell ceremony in honor of the fallen members of the New York Fire Department, at Camp Pendleton’s Naval Hospital Chapel, Sept. 10. The Four-Fives bell ceremony is a tradition in the fire service which symbolizes that that a firefighter died in the line of duty. The custom has continued down to present day and the rendering of final honors to departed comrades by ringing the bell for five times repetitions for four repetitions.
