Smokey’s House of BBQ has been available for Camp Pendleton residents since Jan. 6; however, their official grand-opening took place, Feb. 17. During the grand opening, free food was provided to distinguished guests including Sgt. Maj. Ramona D. Cook, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton sergeant major; Col. James A. Hogberg, commanding officer, Headquarters and Support Battalion, MCB Camp Pendleton; Sgt. Maj. James E. Smith Jr., HQSPT Battalion sergeant major, MCB Camp Pendleton; and Master Gunnery Sgt. Francisco Olmos, deputy director, Marine Corps Community Services business and operations. Free food was also provided to customers that showed up between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. The new restaurant is located in the parking lot of the base’s bowling alley and offers numerous entrees such as baby-back ribs, pulled-pork sandwiches and several chicken platters.
