Sergeant Maj. Ramona D. Cook, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton sergeant major; and Col. Nicholas F. Marano, commanding officer, MCB Camp Pendleton, present a certificate of commendation to Alicia Chiles at the Stuart Mesa Child Development Center, March 21. Chiles, a program teacher at the CDC, received the certificate for saving an infant’s life, February 15. After careful review of cameras at the facility, officials confirmed she used “picture-perfect life-saving techniques,” in saving an infant from choking on food by performing the foreign body airway obstruction maneuver to save his life. “I’m so grateful for the training that we receive; it really helped me,” Chiles said after being surprised with the certificate.
