Two Marines from Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton, Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron were awarded the Marine Corps Installations West Marine and Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter Awards for the fourth quarter fiscal 2008, during a ceremony at the air station, Oct. 31.

Lance Cpl. Larry R. Palmer, communications technician, and Cpl. Eric A. Humer, navigational technician, were respectively awarded the Marine Corps Installations West  Marine  and Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter Awards.  Navy Achievement Medals and  challenge coins were also presented to the Marines by  Maj. Gen. Michael R. Lehnert, commanding general, MCIWEST.

During the awards ceremony, Lehnert said the Marines stood out from others on the meritorious board because of their education, volunteer efforts and physical fitness.

Palmer and Humer, who are part of the ground electronic maintenance work section, explained that competition among their peers and with their leaders is what keeps them ahead of Marine Corps standards.

“The shop is pretty squared away and board competitive,” said Humer. “If we can beat anybody in our shop, we can be on a board.”

Master Sgt. David J. Barentine, ground electronic maintenance section staff noncommissioned officer in charge, H&HS, said the Marines were first selected for the board because of their sustained superior performance at work and during off-duty time.

“They strive for self improvement and inspire their peers to do the same,” said Barentine.

Two other Marines from H&HS, MCAS Camp Pendleton also won the third quarter fiscal 2008 Marine and NCO of the Quarter board for MCIWEST.

“MCAS Camp Pendleton has been setting the tone for other installations,” said Sgt. Maj. Shelley D. Sergeant, sergeant major, MCAS Camp Pendleton. “I am honored to have these Marines on the air station.”
