Media Advisory #12-011 Camp Pendleton to cut ribbon on new athletic field and track
April 24, 2012
CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. --

Brig. Gen. Vincent Coglianese, Marine Corps Installations West - Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Commanding General, will open the new 11 Area athletic field and track in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1 p.m., Thursday.

The Martin Brothers Construction company built the new facility in approximately five months and completed construction April 6, at the cost of $3.35 million.  The track and field consists of a synthetic, all-weather material providing a minimum of 12 years of durable use without weather interruptions, which will require minimal maintenance.

The previous field and track consisted of materials incapable of supporting daily athletic use or withstanding weather.  The required maintenance for upkeep of the previous facility placed a closure of three months per year.

The athletic field and track, along with the Paige Field House built in 2004, completes a state-of-the-art sports complex for Camp Pendleton Marines, Sailors and their families.

Media are cordially invited to attend the event.
