CAMP PENDLETON -- A Marine was shot in the vicinity of San Clemente High School and later pronounced dead at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, Calif., on February 7.

The Marine has been identified as Sgt. Manuel Loggins, Jr.

Loggins is a Joliet, Ill., native, who enlisted in the Marine Corps in October, 1998, and was assigned as a Transportation Management Specialist assigned to Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

His personal decorations include a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, two Navy Unit Commendations, three Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, a Korean Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton offers its condolences to the family and mourns the loss of this Marine.
