CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. --
Artillery units are conducting live-fire training exercises that will involve firing on the Whisky and Zulu impact areas, on the northern part of the base from 6 a.m. to midnight Thursday and Friday, Aug. 7 and 8.
Units will also detonate Mine Clearing Line Charges (MCLIC) Wednesday, Aug. 5 from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Mine Clearing Line Charges are 1,750 pounds of linked C-4 (Composition C) explosives used to create a breach in minefields during combat conditions.
Depending on atmospheric conditions, the sound of the explosions may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away.
