CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. --
An aerial firefighting exercise involving aviation and ground units from Camp Pendleton, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Navy Region Southwest, CAL FIRE and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department will take place here from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursday.
This exercise, the eighth iteration of its kind, will provide ready, trained and certified military and civilian resources to combat wild land fires in the region and culminates with a cooperative effort to extinguish a simulated wild land fire.
Navy, Marine Corps and civilian helicopters will be supporting Camp Pendleton and CAL FIRE ground teams in establishing a fire line and conducting water bucket operations. The training will certify the pilots in these operations and build relations between the agencies involved.
Media attending the event will have the opportunity to witness the training evolution and interview those participating in the exercise.
