Press Release #13-034 Camp Pendleton Fire, Lake O’Neill vicinity acreage update

Base fire crews responded to a fire in the vicinity of Lake O’Neill at 12:45 p.m. today.

Residents within O’Neill Heights housing have been evacuated to the Paige Fieldhouse. The area is closed to all traffic at DeLuz Road at Vandergrift Boulevard and Santa Margarita Road at Vandergrift Boulevard.

The fire was reported at 1,500 acres and 15% containment at midnight.

There is minor damage to four buildings. There are no reports of injuries.  

Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton evacuated approximately 30 patients to local area hospitals and is not accepting new patients due to a power outage. Other patients remain in the hospital and are still receiving care. There is no immediate threat to the hospital.

Currently combating the fire are eight ground crews and nine brush trucks. Providing support from the air are six air tankers, five helicopters, and two other air craft.
