One of the most exciting activities military members can experience while visiting Hawaii is scuba diving and snorkling, submerging interested vacationers into a colorful new world far more appealing than the smog-filled concrete jungles that serve as a home to many.

Vacationing military members and their families can find all the scuba diving adventure they can handle at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The island of Hawaii is known for harboring some of the best scuba diving spots in the world, displaying breathtaking views of tropical marine animals as well as a hearty abundance of vivid vegetation and unique lava formations.

The Outdoor Recreation department at HAFB has teamed up with Island Divers to offer daily guided boat dives to hard-to-reach destinations, weekly scuba instruction for novice divers and daily gear rental, supplying you with all the tools you’ll need to make the most of this unique and exiting experience.

For the beginner diver, Island Divers offers a weekly course teaching the fundamentals of scuba diving.

The cost of the course includes $175 for instructor fees, $49 for books and $50 for scuba gear rental, which is issued as a rent-to-own agreement. Divers who have their own gear are exempt from the $50 gear charge.

Once novice divers have fine-tuned their newfound skills, Island Divers offer boat dive trips that span all around the island.

Experienced divers are placed into one group that dives in the morning hours, while new divers group in the afternoon to practice their craft in shallower, safer waters.

Children ages 10 and up are also allowed to participate in diving sessions.
