CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Children enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program participated in a beach day event at Del Mar Beach here, Aug. 2-3.
EFMP hosted the event for special needs children who are enrolled in the program. Some of the children who participated in the event had special needs including Autism, Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, blindness, cancer, spinal cord injuries, and other physical and developmental challenges.
“I’m just thankful that EFMP has this event,” said Kayla Bradley, a parent who has been involved with EFMP for 10 years.
The event was ran by an experienced team that provided activities such as surfing, body boarding, kayaking, obstacle courses, volleyball and was designed for children who don’t usually have the opportunity to participate in these types of activities.
“For families like us, we don’t have a lot of opportunities for our kids to experience what the (typical) family might,” said Jolanda Graham, parent and volunteer EFMP family representative.
Graham said she also appreciates experienced volunteers who make these activities safe and possible for the children.
