CARNES ROAD CLOSURE - Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Why has it taken so long for you to start repairing the sinkhole in Carnes road?
A1: We started off by working with our partners at the I Marine Expeditionary Force who helped us restore emergency access to housing. Then, we had to pump out the water in and around the sinkhole to start construction. An emergency contract has been approved and construction started Feb. 6


Q2: When can I get my personal vehicle out of housing to go to work?
A2: The temporary medium girder bridge is now available for residential  OUTBOUND TRAFFIC ONLY. The primary parking locations are the PVEC, MCX,
Pacific Plaza & The Naval Hospital's north parking lotOnly emergency inbound traffic is permitted at this time. The command is working to construct two alternate paths to enter & exit the housing area via privately owned vehicles no earlier than Friday evening, 8 Feb. Limited two-way capacity may be available after one-way transportation is established.


Q3: Why can’t housing residents use the bridge?

Q4: What is going on with Santa Margarita Elementary School? When will it reopen?

Q5: Where are all the shuttle buses? When will they come?
A5: They run every 15-20 minutes between the designated stops (See Map) and have clearly visible placards. In addition, they will begin to enter the inner streets of the housing area.  (See Shuttle Schedule)


Q6: Are we able to get mail delivery?
A6: All USPS, FedEx & UPS vehicles are being allowed across the temporary tactical bridge to deliver mail & packages to residents.
